Two Whole Things Happening: Open Souls and Pizza

If you have an affinity towards the voice, the wooden instrument or even know how to pluck the strings of angels on a guitar then please come and play for us at Starbucks, the one on campus, tomorrow at seven. Poetry/other ways of writing out loud, and the such is also adored and embedded in our sponge minds for years to come.

This event has been really epic every time I've been, and it's something you can attend alone if you want a night to the self or just haven't made friends yet (it happens and maybe you could make one there). I personally enjoy forsaking friends to go enjoy other people's art so that I'm not thinking of how my friend is enjoying it and changing my enjoyment based upon theirs. If you have a friend that either compliments art with competing views or you both enjoy art in the same way, then all the lovely power to you guys.
Also there's usually free Starbucks nomms.

Speaking of food there is free food and games at Mr. Gatti's tonight. =D
It is located at this spot: 5001 15th Street and it can happen in your life from six until nine.

Ready for a Sex Comedy in Lubbock (yes I fact checked those outrageous words)?

The gorgeous wonderful Alamo Drafthouse is showing the movie: R100.
The requirement is being 18, and older if you must. Hopefully no crying but I hear comedic tears on the horizon knowing the delicious booze that flow there (I'm a Vesper Martini gal myself).

This is the trailor: https://vimeo.com/ondemand/r100/107852512

See you there or see you not.

Other than that I believe some semi important football game is happening.

Decent Things are Happening

At Alamo Drafthouse there's a girl's night (girl parts not required and they do serve alcohol). It is a Pitch Perfect sing along night. I personally loved that movie and may belt it up.

Also the Whey Jennings Band is holding auditions for a bass player, a lead guitarist and a drummer (seems like they're looking for a band) for a project in the West Texas area. Held at Jake's Sports Cafe at 7.

Do the Zombie Creeps

Are you looking for some horror in your eyes tonight? Well you won't have to look too far, after you drive there that is, because the Alamo Drafthouse is doing a free showing of Night of the Living Dead at 7:30 tonight. This is the movie that traumatized me as a wee little child until I got over it from not seeing zombies everyday. Sharks are a different story, those still stain my dreams and cause a noticeable jump if they pop into my day *shudders at thought*...I saw Jaws when it still felt real.

Did I mention free? Yeah so the movie is free and you can get in without paying. Otherwise I think there is more snow tonight so plan to go jumping around in that, make shapes in it, create large shapes with it or throw it at people. It's actually a great day to be in Lubbock, who knew that could happen?

Monday Yellows (opposite of blue, I Googled it)

So we have been given this day off from school! Woo! You can use it to be efficient and studious with that planner and my personal favorite, Google Docs. If you go into your Google account and over to the Google Drive heaven you can make folders and then create documents or even upload images/anything. I download the syllabus from Blackboard, or email depending on the age of the professor, and then upload them to drive. If you've got time to library it you can go scan your notes and upload them to the folder as well, and then chill out in the library for a set amount of time that forces you to study, and studying around other peoples can help you study, peer pressure and all that jazz.

If you aren't in the mood to get all planned out then there are still many options available. I'm taking this day as relaxing so I suggest a movie. I read just yesterday, from a text message, that American Sniper has equal parts epic action to epic story. I personally recommend two less mainstream films. Wild stars Reese Witherspoon and she does that life shattering/stroking thing she does where it feels real. The story rotates around the idea of redemption and what it takes to both redeem and accept yourself/your life. The next I would recommend is The Imitation Game with Benedict Cumberbatch and Kiera Nightly battling to break the code. I would elaborate but then show my full lack of knowledge on the intricacies of what they were doing, but it was excellent acting and story telling.

After the movie indulge all of your senses over at the Choc'late Mousse Pie Bar over at the Kingsgate center and tell them Ainsley sent you, it won't matter but it will make me smile. You get to choose a mousse and then a crust of wide and delicious variety. My favorite is the key lime but they made it seasonal despite my crying. If they have the cobbler available get that...and a pie bite...and hot chocolate...you might regret it but you'll be really happy for about ten minutes before you can no longer contain that happiness. I personally will be geeking on League of Legends for as many hours as I can justify.

Gatsby's Thumb Cookie and Lubbock Event Calendar

I have created a calendar with events going on in Luhbock. There's happy hours, live music and Alamo Drafthouse showtimes for your convenience. Not everything for February is on there because I'll be doing it by month to avoid spending too many hours on it.

If you're conflicted on where to get espresso know that you get a cookie if you choose Gatsby's. (Your choice should be made now).

Open Your Eyes to Coffee

It's the morning after partying, hanging out with a few friends or having  a forever alone night (reddit joke, if you don't know reddit it's time you go to it and give in to the rest of your life). You can go back to cuddle times or beast mode and venture out into the world of coffee shops.
My top three are Gatsby's (in Cactus Alley about five minutes from Tech campus), J&B on Boston and still five minutes from campus or Yellowhouse which is someplace in Lubbock (I don't recall right now and am too Google to lazy). If you want to be adventurous there's a place called Serios that  an old friend of mine opened, it is in fact reaching into your dreams and is a cereal and juice bar that has video game tournaments and live music, and it's supposed to be amazing and I might adventure there myself. Fair warning it is a family place so I would wait until a night to go instead if you want to avoid the children.

Now to decide if I should have coffee at home before I get espresso at Gatsby's.....

Weekend Mental Nomming Time

It is now time to venture out of the house and into the bar or club or whatever drink hole you desire. I ventured into Fox and The Hound over at the Kingsgate Center (82nd and Quaker area). I prefer to escape the frat/sorority scene and this place hits that chill spot but still with  pool tables and that deeply excellent bar vibe you need on the weekend. Their house wine isn't bad cabernet sauvignon style and they have a large tap and one of my personal favorites, Jager. Grab some friends or venture over to the bartop and think about studying tomorrow.

Joe's Fish in Lubbock

I'm trying to detox from coffee....I don't like mornings right now.

So I've been hearing Joe's Crab Shack swallowed nasty pills and has been refusing to spit them out for months, but when your twin asks you to go there how could you say no? So last night I tried Lubbock's Joe's Crab Shack and although I don't regret the decision I wouldn't want to spend my money again there anytime soon. The alcohol noms were delicious, including the Titanic Tea and the Berry Red sangria, but the Hurricane tasted like cough syrup with alcohol. The garlic clams, my choice, weren't bad but the sauce didn't really stick to the clams at all so they really needed a dipping sauce and they don't come with one so I dipped them in the honey mustard sauce of a fellow eater and that was delicious. Otherwise their crab just tastes...kind of watery and a bit like stringy plastic faking being crab, but I might be a fish snob.
So Joe's is a thing to do but I think there are better places to bang out your buck. The atmosphere is still great, the service is still good, but the food has fallen under the table.

Tonight there are two things happening by the Texas Tech University. At eight the Theatre and Dance department is putting on a  show in the Creative Movement Studio from tonight until tomorrow night. There's also a movie called Papillon  showing at the Texas Tech museum from 2-4:30.

Lubbock Time

Greetings fellow Lubbock peoples. <(^_^)>

I lived in this town for a bit, escaped because I felt drained and like there was nothing to do in this city/town/hellscape. It turns out that a ton of people feel this way and either avoid coming to Texas Tech of just complain about being here. I intentionally returned to Lubbock to finish college and do some research things so I figured while I'm here I could figure out what things there are to do here. There must be right? I know Lubbock isn't crawling with artistic life or festivals or concerts so you have to go and seek these things out rather than hope they pop into your life. A perk to this is you can work on developing yourself and your personality/interests/goals as there aren't infinite distractions from doing so. I'll be stepping out of my comfort zone a lot in order to figure out what I actually like and encourage any readers to do the same. TechAnnounce will tell you of random events put on by the college and outside of that there are plenty of bars to check out, jobs to make money at and cultural things to feel all grown and things. Oh and working out, that counts as something to do right?

If you have any ideas on what to do comment below. I won't be attending sorority parties...I just can't do it.

This blog will be directed towards students mostly, since I am one and that's the audience I want to attract. So today is the first day of class and attending class is massively important if you actually care about edumacating yourself and whatever you do with that time instead is probably not as important. I believe in you and there's a Starbucks on campus.

Speaking of which best coffee shop in town is Gatsby's then J&B and Yellowhouse come after.
